Courtenay Mercier

Courtenay practices litigation with an emphasis on employment, commercial and corporate disputes.  She advises clients on risk management strategies in employment, human rights and privacy law, prepares employment agreements, advises on dismissal and severance issues, and assists with employment issues arising from the purchase, sale and restructuring of businesses. She has represented clients in insurance disputes, contract and construction disputes, and securities litigation. Courtenay has appeared at provincial and superior court levels in B.C. and Alberta, and has conducted a variety of private and judicial mediations.

Courtenay previously worked for one of Canada’s largest firms, assisting clients with employment, labour, and commercial litigation issues.  She has experience with a Victoria firm, an insurance company and with the Alberta Securities Commission.  She is the co-editor of a textbook on labour industry negotiations, and was the editor of a legal manual used as a reference for employment lawyers.

In her spare time, Courtenay is a creative fiction writer and a member of the Victoria Writers’ Society. She also enjoys running, kayaking, and camping with her family.
