John S. Heaney

Associate Counsel

John is an Associate Counsel of Reed Pope Law Corporation and practices in the firm’s Dispute Resolution and Business Law groups.  John brings decades of experience in problem-solving and negotiation to his clients.  He focuses on helping clients to identify potential disputes early and resolve them cost-effectively, including:

• Advocating for clients in negotiation, mediation, arbitration, administrative proceedings and before all levels of B.C. trial and appeal courts
• Resolving corporate/commercial and other disputes, including in the areas of shareholder disputes, construction, commercial leases, labour relations, employment, wills and estates, environment, personal injury and privacy, as well as judicial review of local and provincial government decisions
• Advising corporate and individual clients on incorporation, governance and equity financing and drafting and negotiating commercial leases, employment agreements and other commercial agreements
• Helping clients navigate regulatory compliance and understand government policy and decision-making

Before John joined Reed Pope, he practiced with a leading national law firm in Vancouver and Victoria and with a boutique litigation firm in Victoria, including as an advisor and advocate for a First Nations school board and a First Nations health authority. He has more than a decade of experience as a senior executive and advisor in the provincial governments of two provinces. John enjoys spending time with his family and running.
